More Cards

After we posted the birthday cards we had some people ask us to make them one of the giraffe cards. So we didn’t have the same papers but we think they came out good! Also one of them wanted a penguin as well!

Happy Birthday Popup Card

This is Steve.

I wanted to make my dad a birthday card.  I didn’t want to use a normal card.  I thought of a popup card.  I looked at the box popup that we have used before.  So I went searching on the internet for something.

I found a pop up balloon card that looked simple.

Instructions can be found here http://paperproud.blogspot.com/2011/03/tutorial-3d- pop-up-balloon-card.html

I love to have the Cricut cut and score so I put in the design into Cricut and found some paper.  My handwriting is bad, so I had Cricut Write the big message.

Now you need to fold on the score lines, so you will have a base for the popups to set in.

Side view, the base of the popups set here in the middle.

Then you can decorate the front

And make the popups.  Use plastic acetate strips so they are see through.  You can use plastic from trays you might get rolls or vegetables in.  Just trying to be frugal.

This is what it looks like from the top

The decoration ideas came from Lu.  She is the creative one.  I had a lot of emotion in making this one.  It is his 99th birthday.

Thanks

Steve

I love when Steve finds an idea he wants to do! This one was pretty simple for him! We all remember the ZigZag village from a few years back!!!

Stationary Portfolio

A friend of mine wanted to make these stationary portfolios for some friends of hers. She saw a you tube video but then thought the measuring and math was too complicated. I said I would see what I could do to simplify it for her and come up with a design that would work for her.

The first thing I noticed in the design was that the folds were just paper and I think that will wear out easily. So I tried with a single sheet of chipboard that I had. I scored where I wanted it to fold and turned out ok but not large enough to hold the things she wanted in it.

So I went back to the folds being just paper and cutting the chipboard for the pieces in between the folds. I still had a little trouble with the paper not folding correctly as the portfolio opens and closes. Gently scoring that line helps.

The other issue that you need to figure out before making one is how big the spine needs to be. The spines need to be a little bigger than the clearance you need to have for the pockets and writing pad stack on each other when it closes.

I didn’t put anything in it to hold it closed.  So I had to figure that out after. I will put something in it next time as I’m making it, like magnets or ribbon.

I made “pockets” the same way I make boxes and that seemed to work out well. Next time I might add a piece of chipboard on the sides to help them stay a little less “squishy”!

The adhesives for something like this can be pricy, so I suggest trying to find them on sale. Some places like the pockets and the pad need a very strong adhesive to stay in place with the wear and tear of use.

The decoration was hard for me this time because I used paper that I’ve had for over ten years and I didn’t have things to match it. But I like the way it turned out!

I also have had the ribbon and that clasp for over ten years and I think it worked perfect! Thanks Janah for sewing the ribbon together for me!!!!

I’m now in the process of designing one that can hold a coloring book and crayons for another friend! I’ll be sure to post those when I get them done!

Card Kits as a Gift

My friend Jackie has a birthday this week. She is in her 80’s and doesn’t need or want anything! So it is always a challenge what to get her!  She sends cards to everyone for every holiday! So several years I have sent her unique card bases and decorative paper cut to size for her gift!  And that is what I decided to do again this year.

This year’s card type was a twisted corner design. I saw it on fb or you tube or something and decided I could make her some of those. I did all the bases white and then the decorative papers I found in my scraps. I think she will enjoy them! I did 20 sets for her and I know she will go through those in a couple of days!

Here’s a couple of them!

We did some bright papers too but Steve didn’t get pictures of them all before we sent them off!

Then for her Birthday card I did a bay window card! I didn’t really have the paper to have it turn out like a window but I still think she will like it. I always do a Halloween theme because her birthday is this week!

Christmas Shaker Cards

I found a new shaker card kit and it was Christmas themed.

This time I decided to measure the shaker bits. I used a dash or two of the white pieces and a smidgen of the green. I don’t really think that the green goes with the color scheme so that is why I didn’t used it much.

The other thing I did differently this time is that I took the backing off the sticky pat before I added the shaker bits, it made it so that none of the bits got stuck to the sticky when I took the backing off. This  made putting them together go a lot fast for me. Also with the sticky part, after I peeled the backing off I used a small piece of it under my finger to hold the card in place while I added the bits.

Hope you like them!

Thanks for stopping by!

More Cards

So I mentioned in the post with the last card kit that sanding your paper can change the color even if it isn’t white core. Well in this kit I am showing you how that works.

This is the same paper!  The original was just too dark of a tone for the look I wanted. But you can see that once I sanded it it looks perfect!  It’s ok if you sand and it doesn’t come out like you want, try again! As Steve is very fond of saying “It’s just paper dear”

On this card (it is hard to see in the picture) I had a piece of paper that I had tried something with and it hadn’t worked out. But as most of you know I never throw things away! The diagonal folds gave this card a more framed look.  I cut the corners off so that it would fit on the card and not cover up the pretty flowers!

Here are the rest of the set.

Remember that cards can go vertical or horizontal!!! Half and half for me this time!

Thanks for taking time to visit!
