Grandma’s Cards

This week I wanted to send something to my aunt who let Jess stay with her this last weekend. I thought about flowers but Jess had already done that. Then I remembered that I had all these cards that my grandma (her mother) kept. Grandma kept just pieces of the cards, the pretty parts. So I don’t really have the whole card. And I have a huge box full of these pieces. Most of them are Christmas but there are some others. So I thought I could make some cards out of the pieces.

So I went through some of the box and picked some non Christmas pieces. I then cut them as best as I could depending on how grandma had cut them from the rest of the card. Now all I need to do is put them on a base and make a card!

That was a great idea until I figured out that cards back that far in history weren’t the standard sizes we have today! I just made them whatever size fit the pieces and will probably have to make some custom envelopes. So here are a few I have done so far!!

Vinyl

This week we made some vinyl cancer ribbons for a friend of ours. One of their friends daughters is fighting and plays ball and her friends are so supportive they wanted something on their helmets!!! So glad we could help with this!!!

So the Cricut pens smeared and came off.  So we decided that we needed to do it with a sharpie. I don’t have an after market adapter so we needed to figure a way to get it to hold the pen. We needed to use an ultra fine tip. So we took the adapter out of clamp A, then I had seen somewhere that you could use a pencil grip to help hold it and I had seen that you could use tape wrapped around the pen. Well we used both!!! And I think they turned out well and the “customer” loved them too!!!

Thanks for letting us be part of your journey! #abbystrong

Stain glass candle holder

I wanted to try these candle holders. So again I made a trip to my local dollar store to get supplies, tissue paper and glass vases.
This is my first attempt and I like it but think it needs more on it. I tried to get pictures in the light and in the dark.

This is a project easy to do with your kids again!

I’m going to do some more and will post the in the next few days!

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for commenting also!!  It makes me smile!!

Finger knit bunnies

This week I am still in the Easter spirit and bunnies are multiplying!!  I saw these cute finger knit bunnies and wanted to try them so here goes!!

first attempt
third attempt and I think cute!

These are really simple to do and a great project for kids!!! Mine are pretty small.  The light color is all one piece and measures about 24″ long is all.  Making that length takes me between 15 and 20 minutes.  The face is shorter and so takes less time.  The tying and glue take just as long as the making!!

Thanks for stopping for a minute to read!

Layered Bunny

I just realized that last week’s post didn’t post so this week you are getting 2!! Sorry about that.

This week is another of those don’t give up things. I saw this bunny in the Make it Now projects on Cricut and wanted to make it. So I picked out a bunch of pink papers and went for it!! Steve came home and said it looked like an evil, bunny! It did seem a little not cute. So today I sized it down and only used 1 pattern paper and a solid. And now I think it is cute!!

Remember you don’t have to get it right every time!!

evil bunny!!!
Cute bunny!

Pompom Bunnies

I wanted to blog today about how fun and easy these pompom bunnies are to make…..but as I got into it, I had a couple of issues. But I’m blogging about it anyway thanks to the encouragement of my hubby Steve!!!

Sometimes being a crafter for so many years makes you think that you should be able to do everything right, or at least ok the first time. And so I felt with pompom bunnies. I watched a few videos and said I can do that and have the Cricut help me. I planned on the Cricut cutting the cardboard for the circles to wrap the yarn on to make the pompoms and to cut the ears for the bunnies.

Steve helped me design the circles on my Cricut for the yarn and that was hard just to get the sizing right. Then I wrapped the yarn so tight that the edge of the cardboard folded over and as I was trying to cut (with my dull scissors) I was having to cut through cardboard as well as yarn! Frustrating!!! And then to trim them and get them even was not as easy as it looked and I still don’t feel like I did that very well.

Then I cut the bunny ears out on the Cricut from stiff felt. The Cricut worked great!!! I was sure I was home free! Then I started to glue the pieces together. After I was “done” I looked at it and saw a mouse, not a bunny

.

I was discouraged. I didn’t want to start over even though it didn’t take me very long to do.

But I talked to Steve and he reminded me that I tell people that I teach to not be so hard on themselves and that not every project turns out like we want the first time. So start over I did!!! And now I think I have a bunny!! and a mouse!!!

Wanting summer to get here!!!

I am so wanting the summer and warmer weather to come that when I saw these cute paper boxes on Pinterest I decided to try and make them.  I just printed them out on my printer on normal printer paper,  The ice cream cone was kind of a pain and I definitely would buy the pre- cut, pre- folded version from the website if I wanted to make them, but the ice cream sandwich and the popsicle were easy to do and I can see doing them again for something!!!!

Just another quick reminder, if you are reading this and are not signed up to get an email  when I have posted something new just reply with the email address you would like it to go to and I will add you.  You can request to be taken off at any time as well, but I really hope you won’t!!!

thanks for reading my blog!!

Basket

Sorry I didn’t blog last week, I don’t really know why I didn’t. I’ll try and show you 2 fun things this week to make up for it!!

First is this Easter basket! I’ve had it made for a little while but not had the decorations for it. I finally found these cute garden picks yesterday! They are just the right color for the paper I used and just the right size! If I were to make the basket again I would make it bigger, some of the detail didn’t cut very well this small! But I have limited space for my display so …. And I had to put it together with hot glue to hold it together, you know how I hate hot glue!! LOL

———————————————————————————–

Next I thought I might just do a little tutorial on what the difference is between white core and not white core paper and how to tell the difference.

It used to be that both kinds of paper were very common, now it seems hard to find the white core. The labels used to say if they weren’t white core because white core was so common place (at least in Utah).  Now it seems like (in Missouri) that white core is the exception and solid core is the common.   So here is  little help to understand and tell the difference.  I bought 2 paper packs recently, one said white core, one said just card stock

So this is looking at the ends. The white core is on the top and the solid is on the bottom.  You can see that the white core looks a little cloudy.  That is because on the ends you have a layer of the color, a layer of white (core) and then another layer of the color.  The solid is just color all the way through the layers.

So why would you want one over the other? Mostly the difference comes when you are tearing or distressing the paper.  So I have some pictures here showing the difference.  The first is just the 2 papers, looking very similar.

Then I ran them both through my Cuttlebug embossing machine and

you can see a little difference.

Then i took my sanding tool to each of them, making sure I did the same pressure, times over it, etc.

Also when you are doing a torn edge there is a lot of difference.

I think you can see the difference now.  The white core shows the white through where the solid just becomes a shade lighter.  So if you want the embossed image or distressing to show more you want the white core. I like both and use them both depending on the look I want on my project!!

I hope this was informative and somewhat helpful!!

Box valentine’s

Since I learned to make these box cards I have been kind of obsessed!  I have gone a little overboard, but am happy with the results!  Here are the ones I am sending to my kids!!

They all lay flat so they go in a standard card envelope! And then they fold out to the box when opened!  I’m having a lot of fun wth this and hope you do too!!
