This week???

This has been one of those weeks when nothing has worked out as we had planned.  We have had a lot of things that we had to finish up for our house loan, and changes in plans.

I have been working on learning to knit but that is so far a challenge I haven’t done well yet.   I’m going to get some more instruction with the knitting from my friend Dee today so maybe I’ll have some pictures later this week!

Then I have been trying to come up with something to do for a give away for an Open House at Joann’s.  That has been a little frustrating because nothing has worked out so far.  But this morning things finally started to work a little better and guess what? I think I might have one figured out!!! Here’s a photo, what do you think?

Also it was our anniversary this week and we went to St. Louis, We went to 2 different Tuesday Morning stores.  I would just remind all my crafty friends out there that those stores carry some good supplies at a good price.

I always go when I have time and am not rushed because you do have to sort through things some.  But it is well worth it!!! I’m sure some of those supplies will make it into projects here soon! I’ll remember to tell you about them as I use them.

The first place I always hit in the store is the clearance sections. These almost always have some really good deals! One thing that I found was 100 pre-cut and scored card bases for $1.99+tax.  I thought that was a great find!!!! Also for those of you that have an embossing machine, they have folders for $.99+tax often! For me that makes it worth it to get some that I wouldn’t otherwise.

I always think about how often I will use something like that before I buy it.  And then say to myself does that justify the cost. At $.99 it makes that worth it when I can only see using it for a season like Christmas or something!!!

Thanks for reading my ramblings!

Another Father’s Day Card

With Father’s Day this weekend we wanted to make our son a card. He was so enthralled with his wife’s never ending Mother’s Day card, we decided to make him one for Father’s Day. I made Steve help me and this is what we came up with. I hope he likes it!

Father’s Day card

I know father’s day is a few weeks away but this card is super simple and you kids can do it so here it is! I got the idea and video from www.hellowonderful.com

It takes one piece of 8.5×11 paper and then I cut the tie out with my cricut. I used the plain black tie the comes with the Access account and made it 3.5 long and .95 wide. I think it is perfect!!!
If you are making them and have issues please let me know and I’d be happy to help. Happy to cut you out some ties and send to you also!

You can see from the photos that you can add a photo or a blank piece of paper to write on!! Have fun with this!!!

If you fold it right the stripe should not have the white triangle in the bottom!  Sorry, just refold it if you do what I did!!!

Black Card Bases

Black base butterfly card set

It’s been a really long time since I made a card set and used black as the bases. So I found these butterflies that I thought would look great on the black bases and today I made them up. Working with black can be a challenge. It’s important to remember that black makes things stand out all on their own so you don’t need to pop as much and you want to make sure you are not too busy!

I used one white base that I dirtied with black ink. I realize that i will have to write the sentiment with a pen that shows up on the black or put white piece of paper in the insides. I think that the set looks good! I hope you like it too!!! Card 1 has glitter on the embossed parts, the photo doesn’t really show it too well. It kind of just shows some white spots.

More “stained” glass

So this week I wanted to get the other “stained”glass vase/candle holder done. I had done it once and did’t like the way it turned out so I undid it all and threw it away and started over. This time I like it!! I hope you do too!!!

The first photo is just the vase in daylight and probably my favorite. The second is with  candle in a dark room. and the third is with a candle in the daylight.  I used a yellow flame led candle and I’m not sure I like that. I really like it just for flowers or something!!!

never ending card

A lot of people that have seen the never ending card have asked me how they would use it. So today I though I’d show you the one I just made for my daughter-in-law for mother’s day. Sorry Ashley if you see it here before you get it!  It was done with 1 printed paper that I cut the things out of, but you could use what you want. I am making one for a child next and will post that when I have it done!

More Grandma Surprises

This week has turned out to be kind of busy and nothing I am busy doing is picture worthy!!!

I am teaching the young women to make never ending cards tonight so we have programmed those into the Cricut so it can cut and score them for us. And I am getting ready to teach a class at Joann’s on Saturday but, it is about importing files so not really pictures there.

The other thing I did do was finish cards for my aunt and as I was looking through the box I found a pillow that grandma must have started to make and then not gotten back to finish. So I bought some filling and hand sewed the opening closed. I didn’t do a very good job hand sewing but it has been a really long time since I’ve done any kind of hand work.

I was thinking of my grandma the whole time I was sewing though. I remember sitting next to her as she taught me to sew and embroidery.I love how she encouraged me to do it!! I remember that she would tell us that if we did the embroidery on a set of pillowcases, she would tat the edges for us!! I have several sets that will never see use on a bed!!! They are so precious to me!!! I so loved spending that time with her and I will be forever grateful for the skills she taught me! I wish I would have had the patience to learn to tat!

Thanks for reading my ramblings!!!

Grandma’s Cards

This week I wanted to send something to my aunt who let Jess stay with her this last weekend. I thought about flowers but Jess had already done that. Then I remembered that I had all these cards that my grandma (her mother) kept. Grandma kept just pieces of the cards, the pretty parts. So I don’t really have the whole card. And I have a huge box full of these pieces. Most of them are Christmas but there are some others. So I thought I could make some cards out of the pieces.

So I went through some of the box and picked some non Christmas pieces. I then cut them as best as I could depending on how grandma had cut them from the rest of the card. Now all I need to do is put them on a base and make a card!

That was a great idea until I figured out that cards back that far in history weren’t the standard sizes we have today! I just made them whatever size fit the pieces and will probably have to make some custom envelopes. So here are a few I have done so far!!

Vinyl

This week we made some vinyl cancer ribbons for a friend of ours. One of their friends daughters is fighting and plays ball and her friends are so supportive they wanted something on their helmets!!! So glad we could help with this!!!

So the Cricut pens smeared and came off.  So we decided that we needed to do it with a sharpie. I don’t have an after market adapter so we needed to figure a way to get it to hold the pen. We needed to use an ultra fine tip. So we took the adapter out of clamp A, then I had seen somewhere that you could use a pencil grip to help hold it and I had seen that you could use tape wrapped around the pen. Well we used both!!! And I think they turned out well and the “customer” loved them too!!!

Thanks for letting us be part of your journey! #abbystrong

Stain glass candle holder

I wanted to try these candle holders. So again I made a trip to my local dollar store to get supplies, tissue paper and glass vases.
This is my first attempt and I like it but think it needs more on it. I tried to get pictures in the light and in the dark.

This is a project easy to do with your kids again!

I’m going to do some more and will post the in the next few days!

Thanks for stopping by!
