More “stained” glass

So this week I wanted to get the other “stained”glass vase/candle holder done. I had done it once and did’t like the way it turned out so I undid it all and threw it away and started over. This time I like it!! I hope you do too!!!

The first photo is just the vase in daylight and probably my favorite. The second is with  candle in a dark room. and the third is with a candle in the daylight.  I used a yellow flame led candle and I’m not sure I like that. I really like it just for flowers or something!!!

Thanks for stopping by and reading!!!

never ending card

A lot of people that have seen the never ending card have asked me how they would use it. So today I though I’d show you the one I just made for my daughter-in-law for mother’s day. Sorry Ashley if you see it here before you get it!  It was done with 1 printed paper that I cut the things out of, but you could use what you want. I am making one for a child next and will post that when I have it done!

More Grandma Surprises

This week has turned out to be kind of busy and nothing I am busy doing is picture worthy!!!

I am teaching the young women to make never ending cards tonight so we have programmed those into the Cricut so it can cut and score them for us. And I am getting ready to teach a class at Joann’s on Saturday but, it is about importing files so not really pictures there.

The other thing I did do was finish cards for my aunt and as I was looking through the box I found a pillow that grandma must have started to make and then not gotten back to finish. So I bought some filling and hand sewed the opening closed. I didn’t do a very good job hand sewing but it has been a really long time since I’ve done any kind of hand work.

I was thinking of my grandma the whole time I was sewing though. I remember sitting next to her as she taught me to sew and embroidery.I love how she encouraged me to do it!! I remember that she would tell us that if we did the embroidery on a set of pillowcases, she would tat the edges for us!! I have several sets that will never see use on a bed!!! They are so precious to me!!! I so loved spending that time with her and I will be forever grateful for the skills she taught me! I wish I would have had the patience to learn to tat!

Thanks for reading my ramblings!!!

Grandma’s Cards

This week I wanted to send something to my aunt who let Jess stay with her this last weekend. I thought about flowers but Jess had already done that. Then I remembered that I had all these cards that my grandma (her mother) kept. Grandma kept just pieces of the cards, the pretty parts. So I don’t really have the whole card. And I have a huge box full of these pieces. Most of them are Christmas but there are some others. So I thought I could make some cards out of the pieces.

So I went through some of the box and picked some non Christmas pieces. I then cut them as best as I could depending on how grandma had cut them from the rest of the card. Now all I need to do is put them on a base and make a card!

That was a great idea until I figured out that cards back that far in history weren’t the standard sizes we have today! I just made them whatever size fit the pieces and will probably have to make some custom envelopes. So here are a few I have done so far!!

Vinyl

This week we made some vinyl cancer ribbons for a friend of ours. One of their friends daughters is fighting and plays ball and her friends are so supportive they wanted something on their helmets!!! So glad we could help with this!!!

So the Cricut pens smeared and came off.  So we decided that we needed to do it with a sharpie. I don’t have an after market adapter so we needed to figure a way to get it to hold the pen. We needed to use an ultra fine tip. So we took the adapter out of clamp A, then I had seen somewhere that you could use a pencil grip to help hold it and I had seen that you could use tape wrapped around the pen. Well we used both!!! And I think they turned out well and the “customer” loved them too!!!

Thanks for letting us be part of your journey! #abbystrong

Stain glass candle holder

I wanted to try these candle holders. So again I made a trip to my local dollar store to get supplies, tissue paper and glass vases.
This is my first attempt and I like it but think it needs more on it. I tried to get pictures in the light and in the dark.

This is a project easy to do with your kids again!

I’m going to do some more and will post the in the next few days!

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for commenting also!!  It makes me smile!!

Finger knit bunnies

This week I am still in the Easter spirit and bunnies are multiplying!!  I saw these cute finger knit bunnies and wanted to try them so here goes!!

first attempt
third attempt and I think cute!

These are really simple to do and a great project for kids!!! Mine are pretty small.  The light color is all one piece and measures about 24″ long is all.  Making that length takes me between 15 and 20 minutes.  The face is shorter and so takes less time.  The tying and glue take just as long as the making!!

Thanks for stopping for a minute to read!

Layered Bunny

I just realized that last week’s post didn’t post so this week you are getting 2!! Sorry about that.

This week is another of those don’t give up things. I saw this bunny in the Make it Now projects on Cricut and wanted to make it. So I picked out a bunch of pink papers and went for it!! Steve came home and said it looked like an evil, bunny! It did seem a little not cute. So today I sized it down and only used 1 pattern paper and a solid. And now I think it is cute!!

Remember you don’t have to get it right every time!!

evil bunny!!!
Cute bunny!

Pompom Bunnies

I wanted to blog today about how fun and easy these pompom bunnies are to make…..but as I got into it, I had a couple of issues. But I’m blogging about it anyway thanks to the encouragement of my hubby Steve!!!

Sometimes being a crafter for so many years makes you think that you should be able to do everything right, or at least ok the first time. And so I felt with pompom bunnies. I watched a few videos and said I can do that and have the Cricut help me. I planned on the Cricut cutting the cardboard for the circles to wrap the yarn on to make the pompoms and to cut the ears for the bunnies.

Steve helped me design the circles on my Cricut for the yarn and that was hard just to get the sizing right. Then I wrapped the yarn so tight that the edge of the cardboard folded over and as I was trying to cut (with my dull scissors) I was having to cut through cardboard as well as yarn! Frustrating!!! And then to trim them and get them even was not as easy as it looked and I still don’t feel like I did that very well.

Then I cut the bunny ears out on the Cricut from stiff felt. The Cricut worked great!!! I was sure I was home free! Then I started to glue the pieces together. After I was “done” I looked at it and saw a mouse, not a bunny

.

I was discouraged. I didn’t want to start over even though it didn’t take me very long to do.

But I talked to Steve and he reminded me that I tell people that I teach to not be so hard on themselves and that not every project turns out like we want the first time. So start over I did!!! And now I think I have a bunny!! and a mouse!!!
