Card Class 1 kit remaining

We are finally ready to do a card class again. This time we have 10 all occasion cards.
I love the colors and how they go together. Again I have used things from separate packs and I think they have worked up great!
The class will be April 6th at 10 a.m. and hopefully at our place. If the weather doesn’t cooperate we will move the location to Columbia. The cost is $20 and you will provide your own adhesives. I will send you out a list of what you will need when you sign up! I have 1 kit so get yours soon!

Print then Cut Cards

A while ago I purchased a disk from Crafter’s Companion that had a lot of graphics and papers that you could print off.  I love the cute, girly designs and I was excited to do something with them.

Fast forward to life getting in the way and a couple of months ago I finally got back to the disk.  Steve loaded it for me and we discussed how much ink the papers would take.  That was okay because I mostly wanted the designs.  So I printed some out and ended up having to cut them all out with my scissors.  And they were the wrong size for my cards! Ugh!!!

So then I got the idea to import them into my Cricut Design Space software.  That worked great: the perfect size, combining different elements. it was exactly what I wanted to do. The only hard part was that there was so many of them and each had multiple pieces. It was time consuming. But now that they are in I can use them over and over again!!  Yeah!!

Next issue is that card stock doesn’t go though my printer very well and yes the cost of ink again. The good news is that Cricut will cut them all out perfectly!! I love the print then cut feature!!!

Now just to find a printer that will handle the card stock better and that the ink isn’t too expensive! That sounds like a job for Steve!! Lol

Here’s the finished cards!

St. Patrick’s mailboxes

A friend requested I make something like the Valentine mailboxes. Well, why not make them St. Patrick’s mailboxes? So, I did!!

She also wanted a little something spiritual. So, here are some little candy bibles that have been around a while. She picked the scripture and we made her a bunch of those too!! It was fun to do something that was a little new to me! The hard part on the bibles was making the candy stay in, but not have it glued to the papers! It was also a little tough to make sure the scripture was the right size to read and in the right place. But, once we figured those things out, they went together quickly!

Little Penguin

A friend of mine had this little, cute penguin. She was having problems cutting it out on her Cricut machine. So, she asked me for help.

There are so many factors that play into why something doesn’t cut out exactly right or well on your machine. So, I thought it would be a good chance to talk about some of them.

First, the way the file is created, downloaded or brought in to the software. Do you remember when I talked about the Zig Zag Village? The file didn’t come into my Cricut completely correct and I had to mess with it a little to get it to do what we wanted.

Next would be the blade, the mat or your paper. The blade could be old, nicked or just have something stuck to it. You can clean it off with an alcohol wipe, but be careful not to cut yourself. You can visually check to see if it has a nick in it. The too dull or old part is the hardest to determine. Usually, I cut something simple a couple of times and see how it does. Some materials are harder on your blade than others.  Cutting glitter really wears your blade out fast and so some people just have a blade for that and change it when they are doing other materials.

The mat could have some very small thing still stuck to it. Most of the time you can’t see it. You might be able to feel it. Also, when I am resticking my mats and I am in a hurry; I get a little ridge in some places. The fix for all of these is to wash your mat and let it air dry, then restick if necessary.

As for paper, this is not really a fixable problem. Even the “best”, “most expensive” paper I have has “bumps” or thicker fibers in places. That is just the way paper is made and the cutting machines react to even the smallest change.

Lastly, I look at the settings I’m using – what my material setting is and if I need to customize. I do have one particular cardstock that I made a special setting for because it just wouldn’t cut well for me. But that is a whole other lesson!

So, back to our penguin. When I cut it I had issues with a completely different piece than my friend. This probably meant that it was a paper or mat issue.  Here is a picture. It is funky colors because I was just trying to figure out if it would cut, so I use whatever scrap I had handy!!!

Pots of Gold

With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner I decided to make up a couple of pots of gold! They were pretty simple to make and the most expensive thing was the chocolate!!!

Finding the bottles might be a challenge, but they are from a chili sauce I like to cook with!!  So for me, no problem!!!

Have the rest of a good crafting week!

More Valentines

This week I am just finishing up some Valentine’s things. It has been a fun season! And I want to thank everyone that has supported us!!  Thank you!

I decided to add the little stuffed animal to the candy jars. I think it just adds that little finishing touch.  That raised the price a little but I think they are still  a great value!

$14.00

This cute jar is filled with all the fun candy of the season! Chocolate kisses, crunchy chocolate, red hots, and cherry jelly hearts! What a great way to say “I love you”.  And at $5.50 it’s just the right price! (Decorative paper may vary.)

I also did a couple of cards for my kids.  I just thought I’d put pictures up to show you that you don’t always need to stay with just the traditional colors.  The black ink is kind of a strong color but I liked the way they turned out.

Thanks for taking time to read my post!!!!

Valentine Mailboxes

A couple of years ago I saw these cute, little mailboxes all over the internet. There was a printable pattern available, so I printed it out and made one. Then, I said, “That is a lot of work!” AND they were gluing  the candy on the inside!! I wanted to eat the candy but have the cute box left!

So, in comes Steve and he says, “Let’s have the Cricut cut it out; and let’s modify it so you can eat the candy and keep the box!” Sure enough, he had it remade in the Cricut in no time; and we have been making them ever since!!

I found some cute tape as well as paper that was full of hearts and love and now we are making them again! You can order them from us in two ways: completely done with the candy in them, the price is $0.60 each. If you’d like to put them together yourself (you provide the adhesives and candy), the price is $0.25 each.  If you want to order some,  email me at lu@penfolds.net

Christmas Late

I saw this wire candy cane form at the store and then I saw the mesh tube. I thought how easy would it be to weave the tube onto the form and make a fast door decoration.  Ha! It might have been fast if I had purchased enough tube the first time!!! So, this week I finally finished it just in time for it to go into the Christmas box for next year! That’s just how things go sometimes!!

At least it is done and off my table!  As I was doing it I also thought that I shouldn’t have used the mess tube the way I did.  I wove and pulled it all so tight that you can’t even tell that it is tube. I think if I were to use tube again I would just tie pieces on and let the tube hang more. That would make a “fluffier” effect. Oh well, the supplies were not expensive and I learned!

Thanks for supporting me!
