September Church Bulletin Board

For September we did our take on sunflowers!  Steve really helped get these done this time and we are sure glad! They aren’t exactly the rolled cones like you have seen other places, ours are a little sloppier! But we think that it was a good thing for this project to have some of the ends of the rolls overlap the next petal.  The assembly went way faster with 4 hands!

The first step was figuring out the sizes of the squares and rolling them. We used a tool from our jewelry supplies to roll them all the same size.

We stapled the petals together at the bottom.

Then we stapled them onto a cardboard circle. This is where 4 hands were very helpful!

Then we used the shredded paper for the centers.

Some lettering and it was ready to go up!

Paper Solutions

As I said in one of my last posts, finding paper that works for some of my projects is proving challenging. So for the last week or so I have been trying different techniques to try and make one of my own.

I thought I wanted to do it with string and I thought that paint would work well and I had the colors I needed.  It didn’t turn out like I wanted.  And I didn’t like the way it weighted the paper down and made it stiff.  I could tell that cutting it would also be a challenge.

So then I decided to try and do it with ink. I went and bought some ink at the local craft store. I tried several different kinds of string because I wanted different thickness to the lines. I talked to an artist friend of mine and she gave me a few suggestions about how to pull the stings and went for it again! This worked a lot better but still was a little too inconsistent for what I wanted.  I thought I wanted it a little more organic or messy but apparently this time I wanted crisp!

The next thing to have control was to try pens.  My friend told me I could get a pen to work with my ink, but I opted to use some of my scrapbook pens.  I liked the control I had with them. Then I did several different patterns to get to the one I thought would work best for my upcoming project. They all look very similar but have a difference in spacing and line thickness.

This is my finished piece!!!

New Cricut

Sorry, it has taken me this long to get to this. But I got the new Cricut machine and then I got a job teaching it at the local JoAnn store!! Now they need examples of everything it can do. That seems a little overwhelming but here we go!! Some at a time, I only have one new thing done today. It is this 3D unicorn head! I made it smaller than this first and couldn’t get it to go together. This one still doesn’t have all the pieces on the horn but I think it is ok. I will post more as I get things done!! Thanks for being patient with me!!

This Week’s Fun

0720161329[1]0720161331a[1]

I found some burlap I really like and have decided to make a 3 wreath set out of it but it is more time consuming than I expected. But I have posted a picture of it in progress! Also this week we found a pinwheel maker at a really good price and I can tell that it is going to be lots of fun to use for making party decor! I still am not adjusting to the heat and humidity here in Missouri yet so it seems like I just get started on something and have to go find a towel to wipe down!!! I know we will figure it out eventually!!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read my blog!!!

Hello Again Finally

Wow! It has really been a year since I have been on this blog and I apologize to all of you! We have had some excitement in our lives! Steve lost his job in Utah and we lost 2 very close people to us. Then Steve got a job in Missouri!! He has been here since October 2015. I stayed in Utah and sold our home and have now joined him here in Missouri! I think I am settled enough to get back to this blog consistently, at least that’s my goal!!!

So here is a quick and easy way to make flowers using your cutting system and your corner rounder!!

Cut 3 different size circles with your cutting system, I like to use different papers. Also, it is a little easier with something thinner than heavy cardstock but I did use cardstock on some of mine. Fold your circle in half and round the ends off with the corner rounder. Notice how far the circle goes into the rounder because this affects the shape of your petals. Now unfold the circle and fold it in the opposite direction and punch again. Do this 2 more times folding to what you might call the diagonals. Repeat this for all 3 circles. Now layer the circles together from largest to smallest and you have a cute flower that matches any project!!!
